I always get a porterhouse for two when I go in with my husband who adores having a good steak. His review of this place is pretty high and still is after our visit last Summer. Our server (who is also a chef but I... think was on rotation given pandemic) was friendly. Served us pieces and came around to check back on us later. Meat was good and we did finish all that was served (we didn’t order anything else because we knew we couldn’t finish them anyways). My husband felt he was underdressed for jeans and wished he had brought in a suit jacket to be in the restaurant because of the quality ambience. But I wore semi formal (black pants and shirt) and felt okay. We saw a toddler (maybe around 4?) across the table which we thought was nice to know that we could try bringing our son later.read more

Very expensive steak house. great location. great ambiance great service. food was excellent. ordered off price fix menu. .still paid 160 person. you get what you pay for. good salad, great steak, excellent cheese cake
The seafood platter and bacon were quite good. The steak was okay: it was well-seasoned, but overcooked: I asked for medium rare but it was medium, bordering towards tough/chewy. Also, the potatoes need some serious... work: they're tiny! I needed to scoop up the potatoes as if I'm a kid eating cereal, which isn't appropriate for a NYC steakhouse. Instead, take inspiration from Wolfgang's German Potatoes; they actually have some umph to them.read more
Ive come here *every* time I visit New York since 2016 and the service has always been great! Regardless of some of the negative reviews on that matter, EVERY time I’ve ordered from here my steak has been perfectly... prepared, and the one time I mentioned it was delicious but a bit chewy, they took the steak and prepared me a new one, and gave me a complimentary piece of bacon that was 2 inches thick! It was amazing. So the food to me is not why I’ve changed my review and will not be back. This most recent trip, my luggage was misplaced my my airline and I thought it would be okay to go in for a bite in my casual attire. I can 100% assure you that is not the case. The friendly staff that always catered to me very well practically ignored me, my steak was burnt, not made with care, and the server tried to argue the point with me that it wasn’t, other patrons quietly made remarks like “I guess they’ll just let anyone in here now, this place has gone downhill.” And the service I received was just overall absolutely terrible. It felt like I was in an alternate dimension. Suddenly all the terrible reviews that I read about Benjamin’s made sense. The only thing that changed between my other visits and this one was that I wore designer jeans and a light jacket. They don’t value the customer — they value money, and if they think you don’t have it well, then they don’t value you. I will never be back.read more
